What Really Is A "Natural" Candle?

There is a lot of controversy in the candle industry over the word "natural" waxes. Does natural mean that absolutely nothing can be done to or added to a candle? Does natural mean the product was strictly organically grown? Can a natural product have other "natural" substances added such as fragrant enhancers and still qualify as natural?

At Aloha Bay® we use natural to indicate an ingredient derived solely from plant sources having been subjected to distillation, but not having been produced by or subject to a chemically synthetic process and not containing any additives or processing aids that are chemically synthetic.

Some paraffin (petroleum derived) and soy candle manufacturers claim their products are as natural as any vegetable based wax, but soy and paraffin candles involve solvent extraction using petroleum chemicals like hexane.

100% pure vegetable Palm Wax™ is made from palm oil tree fruit berries and is made just like essential-oils, simply pressed and distilled. Our Palm Wax™ is certified to be kosher, food grade and not contain synthetics or petrochemicals in any form and it's the purest non-GMO food quality wax. This same high quality palm tree oil can be found in hand lotions, shampoos and cosmetics sold exclusively in health food stores and our candles are as safe to use as those soaps and lotions.

At this time we are not able to certify that all our wax is organic but we are the first to work with growers in Java willing to convert to organic methods because they have only been using modest amounts of approved fertilizers or pesticides.
